Upgrades & Exchanges

Found better seats? Here is the brutal truth about swapping your tickets on Ticketmaster.

The Eligibility Gauntlet

Can You Even Upgrade?

Ticketmaster does not "owe" you an exchange. It is a courtesy, and they are strict. You must meet ALL of these criteria:

Primary Market Only: You bought the tickets directly from Ticketmaster (blue dots), not resale (pink dots).
Same Event: You can only swap for the exact same show/date/venue.
Higher Price: The new tickets must be equal or greater in face value. You cannot downgrade.
Not Transferred: You did NOT receive them via Transfer or Resale.
Not VIP: Your order is standard admission (no VIP packages).
Fail even one of these? Ticketmaster will likely deny your request.

The Cost

Exchange Fee

$10.00

Per ticket exchange fee.

Price Difference

Difference

You pay the difference between old and new ticket prices.

The "Sunk Cost" Warning

Ticketmaster will NOT refund the fees from your original order. You lose the original service fees and pay new fees on the new tickets.

How to Request an Upgrade

1

Buy The New Tickets First? (Risky)

Some agents will tell you to "buy the new seats and we'll refund the old ones."DO NOT DO THIS unless you have that promise in writing (chat transcript).

2

The Safe Method: Chat Support

Log into your account, go to "My Tickets," select your order, and click "Contact Us" or the Chat icon.

"Hi, I would like to exchange my tickets for Order #12345. I have found new seats (Section X, Row Y, Seats 1-2) that are higher in price. Please process this exchange."
3

Timing is Everything

Exchanges usually close 24-48 hours before the event. Do not wait until the day of the show.
